Greenbrier Resort Hotel "The White" 1919 Golf Championship Runner-up. Well what a piece! I had this piece listed last week but I pulled it down just to see if I could search a little more and find out a few more facts! I did find out the first West Virginia Amateur to be played at the Greenbrier was 1916 and George Hewitt who was the Runner-up in 1919 was the winner of that event! 1919 was the second year it was held at the Greenbrier. George Hewitt was from Wheeling and a former Wisconsin State Champion! He shows up as a contender for several years! Good luck on the bidding! The last two pictures shows the info from my Google Search! I'd like to know so much more about this piece but according to the Historian records at the hotel only go back to the 1920's. He did tell me he was pretty sure this would be golf but possibly tennis could be an option at that time. This approximately 1 oz sterling medal has so many distinct features! The iconic Springhouse is stunning surrounded by Greenbrier Ivy! Then we see how Significant at the time was the New Greenbrier with the large lettering and The White in small lettering! The Greenbrier was built in in 1913 and "The White" was a hotel on the property from 1858 to 1922! That leaves a little span of nine years where both hotels were on the property. This one of a kind sterling piece probably had a pretty notable Runner-up since there were hardly any golf courses at the time and with The New Greenbrier being the hotel of the day you could not find a better venue!
